Is a vacation in BORA BORA affordable for the bridge and tunnel crowd, or not?

I am 007NYC asked:
As a defunct 9 to 5er, I needed to ask for myself, and hundreds of other tired weary corporate drones who’ve thought about asking, but never had the time to.

What does “bridge and tunnel crowd” have to do with a vacation destination?

It may not be affordable, but it’s doable as long as you save money. I managed to go there for part of my honeymoon, and at that point I’d only been working full-time for 2.5 years so I obviously wasn’t raking in the big bucks.
Everything is expensive there, from the airfare to the hotels to the food, but practically every penny that I earned went straight into my savings account (living with my parents and having free room & board didn’t hurt). I looked at the trip as a once in a lifetime thing which helped motivate me to save as much as possible.
