Baby Kates! asked:

For vacation for a week. I’ve never been. Is it a fun place to travel to? Are there any resorts, activities, or tourist sites you would reccomend?
Thank you so much!

I loved Bora Bora and hope to return again soon. It is a quiet island but you can be as physically active as you choose. Here are some “must dos” while you’re there:

    1. Hike to the summit to see the remnants of cannons/guns left over from U.S. Troops stationed there during World War II.
    2. Snorkel/swim with the Sting Rays (Tahitians regard them as sacred)
    3. Jet ski tour the island inside the Lagoon, you will particularly want to see the Pearl Beach Resort
    4. Try the Poisson Cru, the native dish/delicacy
    5. Shark tour–reef sharks are not as dangerous as those in the deeper waters outside the Lagoon.
    6. Take a day trip to the neighboring island of Moorea and attend the festivities at the Tiki Village for pure Tahitian entertainment!
    7. Visit the Club Med all-inclusive resort in Bora Bora (day visitors are allowed).

…there…that should keep you busy for a while…:-)

The previous answer was pretty good, although I would not suggest doing Moorea in a day tour. It takes about an hour to fly from Bora Bora to Moorea, and a taxi from the airport to the Tiki Village takes at least a half hour. They have a lovely tiki show but it’s only done at night, and I’m pretty sure there aren’t any flights from Moorea to Bora Bora at night.

Have you thought about splitting your trip between Bora Bora and Moorea? We stayed 3 nights in BB and we felt like it was more than enough and stayed 4 nights in Moorea. Moorea is a beautiful island with its own charms.

    My recommendations for Bora Bora:
-Eat lunch at Bloody Mary’s. Sure, it’s touristy but it’s also fun.
-Take a 4×4 tour of the island. While it’s fun to explore on your own, the guide can explain exactly what you’re seeing.
-Check out the InterContinental Thalasso resort if you’re not staying there. It’s on a private motu so you’ll have to take a ferry from the InterContinental Le Moana. The Thalasso is right near the ocean and you can hear all the waves crashing. We went after dark so we didn’t really get to see much but it was great. They’ve got this restaurant called Le Reef, it is amazing (but pricey).
-There’s a Tahia Collins store at the Hotel Bora Bora. They have lovely black pearls. I bought my pearl from their store on Moorea.
-Rent a kayak or canoe from your hotel and just go paddling around. It’s relaxing.
    -The same goes for snorkeling
